RedHat

Container for topics about Red Hat Linux. Brandeis has a site license for Red Hat Enterprise Linux. We have a Red Hat Network Satellite server from which packages and updates can be downloaded. Generally, we recommend that you use yum to manage updates on the newer distributions.

Installing (general outline)

  1. Installers for Red Hat Enterprise Linux can be downloaded from http://software.brandeis.edu/RedHat/
  2. The installers are DVD sized ISO images. Mount the image on your computer, or burn it to a DVD, to run the installer. You shouldn't actually need any activation code.
  3. To register your computer so that it can get updates, download and run one of the bootstrap scripts from http://rhnsatellite.unet.brandeis.edu/pub/bootstrap/ - for example:

wget http://rhnsatellite.unet.brandeis.edu/pub/bootstrap/bootstrap-life-sciences.sh
sudo sh ./bootstrap-life-sciences.sh
